Leave No Trace

Take only pictures leave only foot prints! Come out to the Horatio Colony Nature Preserve and discover ways to reduce your impact on the earth while enjoying nature. This program will demonstrate techniques to reduce and prevent recreational impacts.
Meet at the Horatio Colony Nature Preserve parking area off Daniels Hill Road in Keene (first pull off in left). Remember to bring sturdy walking shoes, water/snack, bug spray, long sleeve shirt and pants and hat.

The fairies and gnomes are looking for new homes! Help us create places for them all to dwell within the preserve. Best for parents and their kindergarten to 5th grade children.

Chautauqua 2010 - Forever Free: Abraham Lincoln's Journey to Emancipation
Historic portrayals will feature Abraham Lincoln and Frederick Douglas.  Chautuaqua is funded by the New Hampshire Humanities Council, the Keene Sentinel and partnering organizations of Keene Public Library, the Historical Society of Cheshire County and the Horatio Colony House Museum.  
Chautauqua will be held at Heberton Hall, next to Keene Public Library, Winter Street, Keene.

Treasures of the Horatio Colony Nature Preserve

How did these massive rock outcroppings get here? Has the landscape always looked like this? Who placed all of these stones so strategically? Join us for a morning hike to discover some of the natural and cultural treasures of the Horatio Colony Nature Preserve. Participants will develop a sense of place through geologic history, tree identification and aging, and detecting disturbance.
