Presidents’ Community Partner Award

The Horatio Colony House Museum and Nature Preserve has received the Presidents’ Community Partner Award given by Campus Compact of New Hampshire.

Campus Compact of New Hampshire is part of a nation –wide consortium of 950 presidents of universities and colleges. They promote community service in elementary and high schools as a way to develop concerned and active citizens. They encourage partnerships between community non-profits and colleges which bring about strong service-learning projects.

The award is for the work the museum has done, partnering with Antioch New England Institute, to fulfill the museum’s mission through innovative educational programming. This has been achieved through internships, workshops and restoration projects at the nature preserve and through place-based learning projects that designed quests ( historical treasure hunts) for the museum, the preserve and at Colony Mill Market Place; established a “Roaring Twenties’ night at the museum for Keene High School American Studies program; and developed a new interactive house tour to enhance the local public school curriculum on geography, math and collecting.

The award states that “your exemplary leadership has translated into a lasting impact on the community.”
